TILE CHOICE TIPS AND TRENDS

As every project has its own requirements it is difficult to recommend which tiles to use, but here are some articles from The Tile Association that we hope you will find useful.

SOME GENERAL IDEAS WE HAVE NOTICED WHILST SUPPLYING AND FITTING TILES:

BIG IS BEAUTIFUL........

  • New developments in technology have meant that it is possible to produce tiles as large as 1.2m x1.2m! These are great in small and large areas alike as the number of grout lines are minimal.

  • Other sizes to consider are 1.2m x 0.6m, 0.9m x 0.9m  or 0.75m x 0.75m

CHANGING TASTES........

  • Tiles that are installed properly (an expert service we offer,) should last for years and years, so consider current trends, colours and sizes to make your installation as timeless as possible. You do not want your project to look out of fashion two years down the line because it is too bold or generally dated.

NATURAL OR ARTIFICIAL STONE TILES ARE CALMING........

  •  Using natural or artificial stone tiles brings a little of mother nature's beauty into your installation and has a calming effect on the space.

  • Showing off the beautiful veining in stone or a naturally hewn surface will always improve the look and feel of a space.

 MIX SHAPES AND SHADES

  • Be sensible when choosing colours of tiles that will sit side by side. Many ranges will have a complimentary colour that is slightly different shade, so the floor and the walls can be similar but slightly different.

  • Mixing sizes of tiles can work extremely well from wall to wall or wall to floor. This can break up an otherwise plain installation and give more character.

RECYCLED CONTENT WITHIN THE TILES........

  • We have sourced a number of products which have a HIGH RECYCLED CONTENT, which means that you can rest assured that your tiles are not as environmentally unfriendly as they could be. These products can be found in the Architectural Porcelain section in our Elite Ranges.

UNEVEN WALLS

  • Bear in mind that if your walls are uneven and out of level it is possible to overcome this with larger tiles but not smaller ones. By this we mean with tiles 600x600mm or over.  However, this is not the same for flooring as the adhesive bed can quickly get too thick.
